NATURE FIRST

The Nature First Principles

  1. Prioritize the well-being of nature over photography.

  2. Educate yourself about the places you photograph.

  3. Reflect on the possible impact of your actions.

  4. Use discretion if sharing locations.

  5. Know and follow rules and regulations.

  6. Always follow Leave No Trace principles and strive to leave places better than you found them.

  7. Actively promote and educate others about these principles

So why did i join the Nature First pledge ?

Well as a land/seascape photographer l am quite frustrated about seeing destructive evidence of humans interacting with the natural environment.

More often now when visiting the coast, rivers or bush land l will find waste that has been left behind. Sometimes it is a plastic bag sitting in a clear mountain stream, or rubbish down and embankment on the side of a road.

It is true that the world is a small place. We can all be explorers and places that were once remote can now be accessed
a lot easier.

But it is important to be mindful of how you interact with the world and that relates to us all, whether you are a photographer
or a traveller.

Remember to leave no trace.
